WHAT'S ROSEWOOD?

       Rosewood is a common name of species that are belonged to the genus Dalbergia. It is a hardwood with beautiful veining. Rosewood is better grown in tropical areas throughout the world. Therefore, there are many types of Rosewood in the world depending on its origin or distribution. Below are some examples.

  • Brazil: Dalbergia Nigra is best known as Brazilian Rosewood. This preeminent wood is greatly appreciated in the Western Worlds.

  • India: Dalbergia Sissoo is known as Indian Rosewood

  • Southeast Aisa: Dalbergia Ochinensis, “ พะยูง ” in Thai or “Trắc” / Cẩm Lai Nam Bộ for Vietnamese.

  • China: Dalbergia Odorifera,  降 香 黄 檀  ( Huanghuali ) in Chinese.

     Characteristics of all Rosewood types :

  • Rubbing and staining real Rosewood can achieve a very nice result due to its fine texture.

  • The wood can vary in color from orange, yellow-red to deep purple with black. However, the color tone is consistent throughout the whole tree. Real Rosewood has an even tone without any white color patches.

  • Rosewood is a fragrant wood type. It has quite an aromatic scent as it fits the name “Rosewood”

  • If gently knock the wood, the sound should be clear and vibrant.
